White Pumpkins in the House

Actually, there are white pumpkins
on the porch...

And in the backyard...

They're waiting to be used for decorations
and to be placed with some heirloom pumpkins
that will soon be at our home.

Now that we've got a few pumpkins in the house,
I wanted to give you one of my favorite
French pumpkin recipes too
I was going to make this pumpkin soup recipe
since we've been having Autumn weather
the last few days, but now I hear
it's supposed to be
hot, hot, hot here once again.

I have included it here for you though
in case you're enjoying wonderful fall weather
where you live

I can't wait to make it here once it's cooler again

Soupe de Potiron
(Pumpkin Soup)
3 c water
1 onion, diced
1/2 T sugar
2 tsp salt
10 ounce can pumpkin puree
(no flavor... just pumpkin)
1 c milk
salt & freshly ground pepper
creme fraiche (if desired)

Bring water, onion, sugar, salt to boil
Cover & simmer 10 min
Whisk in pumpkin & bring to boil
Simmer uncovered for 5 min, stirring constantly

Puree mixture in food processor or blender
until smooth

Pour back into saucepan and whisk in milk

Heat back to high simmer & season
with salt & pepper to taste

Serve with small dollop of creme fraiche
and light drizzle of olive oil if desired

Serves 4

We usually drizzle just a little bit
of olive oil on the very top
It is so good!
Our local grocer carries this brand
from France from time to time

but you can order it here if you're interested
in giving it a try and can't find it locally.

Make sure to serve with crusty, crunchy
French bread... Yum!

I'm headed to Petaluma this weekend
to the antiques fair and to see
my sweet friend, Michelle that owns
Summer Cottage Antiques

I'll be back next week with lots of photos
What are your plans for the weekend?

Happiness to you!

your white pumpkins are so precious!
I too have a thing for the white ones!
I also copied your recipe...it sounds so good and will be perfect on one of our cool Autumn Evenings.
As far as the weekend...well we are having a Autumn Marché Nocturne at the store and I can't wait!
Have a blessed weekend and enjoy yourself...can't wait to see more pictures!

White pumpkins, how fabulous! With those I'd get into the fall spirit. Something about the orange tones of fall that turn me off in decor so these would do the trick.
I'll try your soup recipe for Thanksgiving this year!

Hi Tracie!!

We just went from cool temps to 89 degrees!! I wish I could put pumpkins out but it's just a little too early. I might try a few indoors like you have! I love the white ones. Different! And pretty gourds, too!

Your recipe sounds delicious! Perfect for the cool weather to come! Thanks! :-)

I love little white pumpkins!! I brought some of that olive oil back from France...it's so amazing! (and the tin isn't too bad to look at either). It is back to being warm - I was hoping the cooler weather was here to stay! Enjoy your weekend!

Hi dear....I never find white pumpkins here, but my little secret is to decorate with the faux white pumpkins from the craft store. That soup recipe looks like one that I would love to try....when it's not 100 degrees outside! xoxo, janet

Hi Tracie! Oh, you know how we all love white pumpkins!! Pumkins are just barely starting to show up in our grocery stores now. When those white make their appearance they go fast because they are found in much smaller numbers than the orange ones.
It won't cool down hear for another month, but I too am really looking forward to it!
Have a wonderful weekend sweetie!

Hi Tracie,
Thanks for the reply. Ivy is not an easy growing plant in my country, so mine looks weak and pale. Compared to yours, strong and healthy, that's why i asked if it fake? Haha. Didn't know ivy can grow in the water and live without soil! Thanks for telling, im gonna bring it in and put it in my living room tomorrow!
Cheers

Tracie,
Thank you for your visit, to answer your comment on heat! no it is way to hot! in Southern Calif and hard to get your head wrapped around Fall and Pumpkins, turkey, or Christmas. When will it all cool down?

Next post I am getting into the holiday mode even if the heat kills me. Oh well that California for yeah!!

Love your white pumpkins and all the inspiration that goes along with it :)

I use to say so many years ago when I lived in Northern Ca. that I wish there were white Pumpkins and then someone in Medesto Calif I believe came up with a cross breeding of the great white ghost pumpkin. I am sure he must know by now how pleased all us shabby euro chic-ers are :)

Love that cute cage displayed with the little white ones!
see you soon for more inspiration.
