The Kindest Dog in the World

Zeke overlooking My Petite Maison and Yardwork

Our hearts and minds are still trying to grasp that our beloved, Great Pyrenees, Zeke has left our little house, My Petite Maison.

Zeke overlooking gardening projects ª He didn't like to get dirty!

He left us Wednesday evening but we are so thankful he came to live with us in May of 2000.

More lonely than we ever thought possible here, but we are so thankful Zeke went on his terms, he was beautifully giving until the end... Waiting for us to go upstairs for the evening then laying down to peaceful sleep.  He had a schedule and was a stickler with keeping to it.

Zeke and Buttercup in Yard

He never knew anything but kindness from our family, we gave him more love than we knew was possible to give another soul and loads of ciabatta from Mezzaluna Bakery (his favorite thing in the world, freshly baked bread).

Waiting for yard prep to be over!

WE knew nothing but kindness and love FROM Zeke.  From the time he came home from Potter Valley on my lap, he knew he liked the finer things that Healdsburg had to offer or any place for that matter.  He had "geek night" with my husband and had his own "nachos" made with rice crackers with just a tad of cheese on them and watched Star Trek or specials on the science channels (my daughter and I called it The Boring Channel to tease ;)

Mr Freckle Lip Sleeping

Zeke also knew a lot of late night decorating and occasionally he'd change up the pillows on our couches.  We'd get up in the morning and the pillows had been switched around to other places which used to make us laugh.

ALWAYS a smile

The best thing is the LOVE, GIVING, KINDNESS of Zeke.  We're thankful for 11 years of the best dog in the world.

We love you, sweet Zeke, Big Bear.

What a beautiful dog. That face just breaks my heart. How lucky he was to have a family like you to take care of him to the end.
His late night decorating definitely made me smile:)

Oh no....I was just Tweeting & saw your comment darling Tracie. Somehow I had a feeling that things weren't right in your world...since I hadn't seen you around on F/B.

You know I totally understand after having been through this with Murphy's passing a few months ago. Although he wasn't always the best dog, he was ours and we loved him with all of our hearts. It's so sad when they go....but, he will be in your heart always. I'm blowing kisses to sweet Zeke in heaven today....

Love you

Oh dear heart, I am so sorry for your loss. Zeke was so special and we all shared in his winsome ways and that tender heart. Words cannot express how sorry I am for you and your family. All of us have experienced the painful loss of a furry family member. It does take time to heal and you must be kind and gentle with yourself.
Much healing love, Mar

So sorry to hear of your loss of the very furry Zeke. It is truly one of the hardest things in this world to give up a fur-baby. They expect nothing but to be loved (and fed) and give us so much love and joy back. My heaart goes out to you at this moment. Many happy memories will remain.

so very very sorry to read what you are going though, ...truly you got the treasure of Zeke for many years, but never is it long enough,...is it? What an old loving soul I'm sure he was... My heart is with you...just had to pop in and say - as a fellow crazy dog lover...thinking of you this holiday season, and saying a prayer that your sadness will be overcome by the wonderful memories and love you will always have for this special furbuddy. {{{hugs}}}

Oh my dear friend how my heart goes out to you. This seems too much...your kitty, now your doggie. I have grown to love Zeke through your blog(if that is possible) and I am crying with you. I will be praying for you. He will be greatly missed. Let yourself grieve...it may take a long time. That is okay, let the tears flow. ox

Tracie,
You were so kind to me when we lost Jakie last January. He left us in much the same way, waiting for me to climb into bed then closing his eyes. They become so much a part of us, our habits become theirs...or vice versa. My heart is breaking for yours and I wish I had the words to tell you just how much. I think you know because again, when I was hurting you felt it almost as much as I. Thank you for sharing Zeke with us through your blog. I never got to meet him nose to nose, but I fell in love from the moment I saw his big, smiling face. Someday I hope to meet his mistress who was a part of putting that smile there.
My prayers will be with you.
Debbie
P.S. Tracie, please don't feel you need to reply to this comment. I know where your family's heart is right now...believe me...I know.

My heart goes out to you. I know the hole left in your soul. When we lost our beloved Troi, I was completely broken.
But I am a better person for the paw prints left on my heart.
To know the special love from a special dog is a blessing indeed.
God Bless

Oh, nooo, poor Tracie, not another baby in the same month!

Oh, this is just too sad...

His eyes are so sweet and gentle, though, I believe just gazing at his pics will bring him close again...he'll never leave your garden.

Tracie,

I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved Zeke. Nothing is more painful than to lose your faithful companion, for 11 years. Not only that, but also losing Buttercup as well. I am so sad for you!

I can only say that I have been through this same situation three years ago when I lost my Josie who was 12 years old. Her spirit is still with me and I still grieve for her.

Zeke was a beautiful dog! I have always said dogs are more like people than dogs. My m-i-l use to tell me that Josie was so smart and didn't act like a dog.

I hope as time passes it will also ease your sadness and grief.

Hugs to you,

Kris

That was one special guy. As if he came into this world just to grace your home with his regal but loving presence.

He was loved and also gave love. A beautiful, perfect picture.

We'll miss you, ol' guy... we'll miss you a lot. But your smile and those eyes will live on in our hearts...

Til we meet again, Zeke. Look up a big regal Doberman up there -- his name is Jam. He looks fierce and intimidating but he's just a poser... and tell him I love him. :) You two will hit it off and he can show you around. :)

Love you, Tracie...

I can't imagine losing 2 beloved furry animals in one lifetime, never mind one month. I'm so sorry. I know the feeling. My beloved Baby cat was with me for 9 years and every single day I was/am in love with her, how could that be I used to ask her? But she was a divine love. My heart is with you. Lady

Along with Ruth's Jam, I'm hoping that Zeke will be running around with our Beau, who left us last year just before Christmas. lots of love and hugs, Lidy

I just wanted to let you know that Ed and I have been thinking about you this holiday season. Losing a family member is never, ever easy. We have lost many in our family as well. Eventually the intense pain eases a bit and the memories of all your happy times together replace the ache in your heart. By all the comments left to you Tracie, it's obvious you have many many people who love you! Here's to 2012, and creating new memories. Marcia

And, it sounds like he gave you so many laughs and so much joy, and you gave the same to him. I bet he will come visit you in your dreams... What a big ole teddy bear he must have been, and you gave him a beautiful eulogy here...

After I realized he was gone today...I had to go and find this post that I'd missed. It happened at a time I was struggling to stay up with blogs. I'm sorry you lost him. He was soooo handsome and 11 years so short. I am so happy you have given another boy a wonderful home. That is what I did...I decided something good had to come out of losing my Newman so I took in a lost boy. My Mom was here the other day and said..."He is just soooo happy! So nice to see he has a wonderful life." Oh...if all dogs could have a wonderful life like your Zeke.
